Unfortunately I was not able to find the same excerpt of Tacitus as we have in our textbooks so you will have to take the books home to read the excerpt for tonight. You will read "The Burning of Rome" from the Annals by Tacitus. Make sure to read the biographical information as well as the story itself. As you read, pay attention to the following ideas; I would take notes related to these topics to prepare for our discussion:
- Where is Tacitus' bias in the piece? How do you see it shown? Are there any trends in his bias?
- How is this piece about leadership? What qualities make a good leader according to Tacitus?
- How is this piece about a reversal of fortune? Consider Rome and how its fortune changes in the piece as well as other characters or groups.
In addition, you should begin to prepare your vocabulary work. Our next section of words are numbers twenty-one to thirty-six; prepare accordingly.
ESL English III:
After today's writing workshop you will need to take the feedback given to you by either me or Ms. Gillen and begin to revise. You will want to have your revisions done by Friday because we will be going to the computer lab during that day to type our drafts for submission.
