AP Research

Dear students! Please turn in your documents for your PREP Check 3.1 to Google Classroom. If you don't turn them in by Sunday, I'll go hunting in your portfolio for what I need. As a reminder you should submit your:

• Data Sets/Planned Data Sets (depending on where you are in the collection process)
• Task Log
• Reflections to Number 21
• Record of Communication (Expert Adviser and Participants - If none, say none.)
• Paper Draft to Method Section

This is forty points for completion. This is also a good weekend to check on everything! Be sure that you have POD Slides started, you've revised your paper, you're continuing to get ahead for what you have coming next!

Russian Classes

I hope that you all enjoyed your day with Russian culture and investigations. If you did not turn in your work to the substitute today in class, then give it to me on Monday. Remember that next week we will have quizzes (Russian I) and the days to complete our grammar/vocabulary project (Russian I-IV). This weekend is a good one to study vocabulary, complete exercises, and work on your projects.

Homework for A-Day Students - 28 February 2020

February is over! It's on to March. Also, we're at the middle of the quarter, expect progress reports next week! The quarter will end on March 26 for all classes.

AP Research

Today was our day to start to talk about DATA! And I don't mean the android from Star Trek. Today we started to build our data tables - think about our organization - and consider how to make our data digestible to our readers (bite-sized). Take all of this forward as you're working this weekend. Remember that as we work we are building the next section of our paper - RESULTS.


I've posted Reflection 21 for you to complete. Remember that you should also check in on your previous POD Questions. Next week I'll be checking your PREP Folders for your first check - have everything ready and organized for me.

Russian I

Remember to turn in your poet projects this weekend if you haven't yet done so! They should be turned in by Sunday to be scored as on-time!

Today in class we learned our case endings for the rest of the cases for adjectives - Dative Case and Instrumental Case. Remember that these cases are used for indirect objects (Dative) and with tools (Instrumental). From there, we went on to working with our film.


Over the weekend you should finish all of Exercise 2.9 focusing on your case endings. We also have a bit of a scavenger hunt this weekend with a song. Look at the song lyrics, listen to the song, and find all of the adjectives you can! Try to identify which case they are in. I posted the song here so that you can listen as you read.

Advanced Russian

Today in class we had our second assessment on Verbs of Motion in Russian. I will have these scored and back to you soon. Hopefully you all felt more prepared this time around than our first quiz as we are continuing to learn and focus on our process of creating sentences in Russian about our motions and travels. Over the weekend there are two things for you to accomplish: First, submit your poet projects. They should be turned in to Google Classroom. I've attached the slides here for your overview of the project. Second, complete your translations. Russian II should just do the ones on the front. Russian III/IV should do the ones on the front and the back. We'll take some time to review these on Tuesday - if you're unsure, give it a try and then ask me for help.

Homework for A Day Students - 26 February 2020

AP Research

Today was our day for another round of Peer Editing. Thank you for giving thoughtful feedback to your classmates and for your feedback to me about ways that we can make the class productive moving forward. We have THREE sections left in our paper. But thankfully, they'll go pretty quickly - all we need is the DATA! So, here are my suggestions for tonight:

1. Spend some time with your PREP Folder. Remember that next week I'll check them. Have updates in your required folders (Weekly Work, Research Records, Assessment Task Drafts). Also, be sure that all of your reflections are complete.

2. Work on your POD slides. Do you have slides that line up with where your paper is?


3. Get your data sets together. Next class we'll start to discuss and consider ways to represent our data for our reader/viewer. Bring in what you have, even if it's empty, so that we can build what we need!

Russian I

Today we had our quiz on colors and then we tried to finish our poet cultural projects. Remember that if you didn't finish your project today in class that they are due by the end of the weekend. We then took some time to start on exercises together. Exercise 2.9 is a great one to work on your case knowledge. Use your charts and your information in your textbooks.


Be sure that you're studying the other vocabulary in the Chapter - other adjectives and nouns. Next week we'll begin to work on our grammar project for this unit!

Russian II, III, IV

Today in class we did some review of A, B, C type sentences and the various destinations for these types of action. I was happy with the work that you all did because I think that you clearly understand that A sentences can do A work, B can only do B, and C can only do C. Remember that there should be alignment between the question and the answer. Also, remember to use the preposition after the verb to create a complete sentence/idea.


Your quiz will be on Friday. Using your notes will cost you 500 rubles. Be prepared. Study and review your activities and exercises. Please finish your poetry projects before Sunday. They are due!

After an unexpected long weekend I am ready to go! Let's conquer the end of February!

AP Research

Today was our working day to prepare for our Peer Review 3.0 Day. Next class you will be expected to have a full draft of your Introduction+Literature Review and Method. Hopefully after our work on crafting Literature Reviews and the templates/requirements of a Literature Review, you feel more prepared. Check out Reflection 20 - It's a good question to use as you draft or review your draft.

Have a full copy of your draft as a hard copy or as a full document in Assessment Task Drafts.


Our next classes will focus on data analysis, data sets, and data visualization. It's time to finish our process and move on! Remember the elements of your PREP folder which should be updated as you are working.

Russian I

Today we spent time looking over Accusative case endings for adjectives before having a small writing workshop and then going on to our film. We'll likely finish the movie this week. Be ready for your quiz next class by studying your colors! Know your words and how to hear the gender of the word. It's a vocabulary quiz, not a grammar quiz, so just focus on learning the meaning of the words and their spelling.


Outside of this continue to focus on your endings. Hopefully the word wall helps. Trying to focus daily on one case makes the work a lot easier.

Advanced Russian

Today in class we focused on A and C type sentences as we reflected on a series of travel in the past and then the general round trip made by those actions. We spent time also reviewing our paired prepositions - remember we have to talk about going FROM and TO a place. It's important to have both sides of the equation. I'll review your in-class work tonight and have it ready for you next class.


For tonight, finish the exercises which we started in class. Also be aware of our quiz on Friday! It will look similar to the last quiz. Use our last quiz to study and prepare. This quiz will focus on the verbs that are newer - to lead, to swim, to fly, to run.

AP Research

Today was an important day. If you were absent, be sure to see me for the handouts that you missed and to see your classmates for the information as well. Our mini-lesson was geared on the Literature Review and how to create that section of the paper. Be sure to see the slides and the templates below.


Next class will be a full workday. We will also finish any conferences that we need to. There will be a drafting day on Monday. Be ready with your Intro + Lit Review and Method section ready to go!

Russian I

Today in class we worked on reviewing the differences between our nouns and our adjectives as we looked at the endings available to us as we activate cases. From there, we spent time with our poet projects. By the end of today's class you should have selected a poet and set up your slides on that poet. I hope that all of you will enjoy this quick foray into Russian literature and culture. Be careful - this is how I got started in Russian!


Tonight, be sure that you complete your exercises on Nominative, Genitive, and Prepositional Cases. Learn your colors. We'll have a quick spelling quiz next class, then on to our new grammar and our movie!

Advanced Russian

We did a lot today! We learned our final verb of motion (to run) and we also learned that Mr. Miller can't conjugate the verb after seventeen years with it. From there we took time to work on the poet culture project. Remember that these projects will be due next week.


After that, we spent time reviewing our quiz. As we did this we were focused on cases (accusative or dative) and the idea of the A, B, and C type sentences. Remember that identifying the sentence type is so important to do this work. Look for your clues in English! Tonight, check in with your new exercises and keep studying your verb cards. We'll have our second quiz on Verbs of Motion next week on Friday. It will be similar to this one we reviewed today, but will focus on newer verbs.

Homework for A Day Students - Weekend - Valentine's Day - 2/14/2020

AP Research

We're just working, working, working as we keep building our task. Remember that you should complete your BOK Analysis and then the two reflections left for you on Google Classroom. Remember that one will focus on presentation, and one will focus on alignment in the paper. Take a look at your findings and takeaways on this assignment. Be sure to use this as you're building your Lit Review. (We'll focus on this next week).


We'll be peer editing our papers on the 24th. Be sure that you have a complete introduction, lit review, and method (as much as possible). Remember that you can write based on projections and then make edits later.

Russian I

Today in class was a day to review the way in which we build complete sentences and agreement between adjectives and nouns. Remember that we're using our Chapter 1 knowledge to know what to do with nouns and our Chapter 2 knowledge to know what to do with adjectives. Keep studying and reviewing how to make these changes.


I was happy to see your improvement on the Backpack assignment. I'll have these back to you soon. Please complete your exercises this weekend - Chapter 2, Exercise 2 and 4 - Use your cases and notes to do this work. Remember to focus on learning your colors - we'll have a quiz on vocabulary next week!

Advanced Russian

Class today was a day for playing with verbs of motion to talk about traveling around Moscow. As we worked with this activitiy we were using actual Russian texts (maps) to talk about our travels. Remember our process - We use A sentences to talk about plans (What we will do.) We use B sentences to talk about going (travel to a destination in the moment). We use C sentences to talk about round trips (Today I went to the Kremlin).

Remember Russian III and IV, it's not enough to use the prefix - you need a preposition too!


Over the weekend, continue to study your cards and complete the remaining exercises. We'll have more time to work with our verbs next week. Don't forget to make corrections to your quizzes for a reassessment.

Homework for A Day Students - 12 February 2020

AP Research

Thank you for working with the substitute teacher and with Mr. Ellison today. A few reminders to guide you as you continue to work at home on your studies:

1. Be sure that you document all of your work in your PREP Folder. Especially important right now are Research Records, Records of Communication (participants/expert advisors), Task Log.

2. Complete your BOK Analysis and Reflection 17.

3. Our next major assignment will be a peer editing/revising day focused on Introduction, Lit Review, and Method. Hopefully, as you are moving through this unit, you are making decisions and finalizing these elements of your paper. I hope that you all see how the analysis assignment helps with the drafting elements.

4. We will have a round of conferences in the coming classes to check in on things.

Russian I

Today in class we focused our work on our case learning with adjectives. We were using genitive case and nominative case to talk about identifying animals and to discuss either having or not having something. Remember that as we do this work it's all about agreement with the noun. Whatever gender and case the noun is in, the adjective has to match. As I said in class, we can sort of change the shape of words to fit them where they need to fit.


Continue to study and review your declension charts - both nouns and adjectives - to learn these partnerships. Tonight, you should finish the Chapter 2 exercises which were assigned last class. We'll go over those before getting back to our film on Friday!

Advanced Russian

Today in class we had a writing workshop about verbs of motion followed by a new verb (to swim). We ended our day reviewing our exercises for homework tonight as well as reviewing some of the key cases and prepositions we use in Russian to complete full ideas with travels.


For tonight, complete your exercises - follow the instructions and use the model exercise we completed today at the end of class. Continue to study your verb cards. You should know most of your conjugations by this point. I think that a lot of you should also focus on your noun case endings - they work together with the work we're doing now.

Homework for Monday - 2/10/2020 - A Day

AP Research

Today was our working day to kick-off the week. Our major task for this week is to complete the Body of Knowledge Source Analysis. Please use the form that is in the assignment or the form given to you in class. You may complete either a hard copy version or an electronic version for your score. Hopefully by studying one of your sources in depth, you will get a better understanding of how to construct elements of your own academic paper. Consider how they show their data and how that data is made clear for a reader. How does the language they use lead to an understanding for the reader?

By the end of this week you should be ready with a new draft or a revised draft of your Introduction/Lit Review and Method section. We'll be doing another run of peer editing next week!

Russian I

Today in class we began to learn our adjectives and the rules for working with them. Remember that adjectives must agree with their nouns by gender and by case. We started to learn the way that we make these changes today - especially focused on nominative and genitive case. From there we moved to arts and crafts - coloring and writing about our creations. Continue to study your new vocabulary tonight (colors) and complete the exercises in your textbook - Chapter 2, Exercise 2 and 4. Focus on being able to identify cases in this work, vocabulary, and gender.

Advanced Russian

Today was a day focused on Anna Karenina and our first attempts at quizzes. Remember the main takeaway from our conversation today - you have to remember the point of view of the speaker as they talk. Also remember that in a Russian brain, a person can only go one place at a time - it doesn't matter if they go other places.


You have the chance to redo your quizzes all this week and the beginning of next. Focus on your verb cards and your cases. Studying and learning these are the majority of your homework. We'll do some writing next class on Anna and her verbs of motion before learning some new verbs and vocabulary.

Homework for the Longest Weekend - End of Quarter 2 and Semester 1

AP Research

Solid workshop today everyone. It was a day to work through our edits, apply what we've done, and make sure that our PREP folders are in a good place as I look at them this weekend.

The main focus right now is the collection of data to answer your questions. If you have been finding barriers to collection, then what can you do to solve them? Do you have the tools that you need to organize the data for answering your question? How can you work with your classmates or others in the community to accomplish the work?

Now that you've created content (your introduction) it's a good chance to remind yourself of the tools on DigitalPortfolio. TurnItIn Originality Reports can help you to find possible plagiarism in your papers. Make sure that things are cited. Use your access to the PurdueOWL if you need it. There's also an infographic posted on plagiarism and the various types.


Over the weekend (it's really long) keep working. Keep writing. Keep collecting. We'll be doing a second round of elevator pitches on January 28 with slides. Be ready for this - it's a good jumpstart on your POD. The instructions for Elevator Pitch 2.0 are on the final slide posted.

Russian I

Today in class we took a quiz on all six cases. Part of today's quiz was also a reassessment for your first case quiz; hopefully, you felt better prepared for your case identification today and more comfortable with the task. From there - we moved to a project workshop. The goal of today's class was to finish as many of our About Myself sentences as possible, have them uploaded, and have them checked for accuracy. Hopefully working with your partner and with me helped you to do this.

We finished class reviewing the new culture project on Russian poets - remember that if you are planning to participate in the Olympiada you MUST do one of the poets listed and one of the poems in Google Classroom. If you're not planning to participate, then you can choose whom you like.

Over the long weekend you should complete the translation exercise at the end of Chapter 1. Use your vocabulary and your skills with grammar to do this. Don't use an online translator. Try to first find the words you need, put them in order, and then make the changes to the words that are needed to form the sentence (conjugate verbs, put nouns in cases). We'll review this work on Friday so that we are ready for the Unit Exam. That will happen on January 30.

Advanced Russian

Today we took a second attempt at our Unit Examinations. I hope that you were able to feel more confident in the sections that you reassessed today. From there, we went back to the mines to learn another verb of motion - to go by vehicle/transit. There's an irregular verb here - but it's really not so bad. I hope that our writing today in class (Vladimir Putin's errands around Moscow) was helpful for you to understand how the verbs work and the way that the choice of verb really does depend on the point of view of the speaker above anything else. Remember that language is a living thing; people can use it how they want. The exercises this weekend are helpful with this. Choose the correct verb for the situation and then conjugate for the needed form. You may need to translate in order to do this work.

Also be aware of how often verbs of motion are used in everyday sayings. They're are so productive in Russian!

We also have our poetry project in this class, the poet choices and poems are more weighty than those for Russian 1. Remember that you should choose a poet and poem from the Olympiada materials even if you're not planning to participate.

Homework for A-Day: 7 January 2020

AP Research

Today in class we watched our third POD presentation. Hopefully my opening comment of "lots of little mistakes" made sense as we discussed scoring and applied the rubric to this POD. We've finished watching for now, there will be another round in April as we prepare our own PODs.

Remember our discussion today on PREP folders. They are useful. They are needed. They are important. You should be working on updating your PREP folders daily and they should reflect where you are in your process. If you don't understand what you need to do before the second check, let's be sure to talk on Thursday.


The main goal right now is to write. You should be actively constructing your introduction. We will peer edit these next week on Wednesday. Be ready with a working draft.

Russian I

Good work today reviewing our key cases - nominative, accusative, genitive, and prepositional. It's a good time for us to review since the grammar section of the last quiz was a very difficult section for all of us. I hope that as you reflected on your work on the quiz you were able to see your mistakes and correct them.

From there we went on to our projects about ourselves. Remember that for this project you should write an answer for each question and pair that with a sentence. This is a great way for us to review our cases and learn them. I gave you some additional exercises on accusative and genitive to help you.


Don't forget to review the information on Olympiada so that I can register you. It's a fun day!

Advanced Russian

Today was a day for reviewing before our big exam next week on Monday. Russian II students presented their work and shared new words with us as we dealt a bit more with aspect. Then we worked with our particular grammar topics related to counting, numbers, aspect, time expressions, and verbal adverbs. Use these exercises to continue to prepare for your unit examination.


Next class we'll have our numbers reassessment and have some final practice work before the examination. Be ready with exercises complete to show if asked. There's also the Olympiada materials below. Take a look at the requirements for competition and let me know on Thursday if you plan to compete.

Homework for A-Day: Wednesday the 18th

Today was a workday and it looks like we're being pretty productive in the room. Remember that I'll be checking your PREP folders over break for eight folders. You're getting eighty points on this assignment, ten points for each folder. I'm looking for completion in this assignment, and I'll be reading some elements (like your reflections).


Next class is another POD and then our final workshop of the year! Make it a great last day!

Russian I

Today in class we learned how to make sentences talking about what we have and what we don't have - all focused on using Genitive Case. I was happy to see that so many of you were engaged in working and writing today during our workshop.


Next class we have a quick quiz on vocabulary and cases. Be sure that you've studied your four cases (nominative, accusative, genitive, and prepositional). Know their jobs. Know what they do to words. Also know your Chapter 1 Verbs - There's a vocabulary section too! After our quiz it's going to be movie time; bring snacks for the group if you'd like.

Advanced Russian

Today we went over the skills that you'll find on your unit exams, which you can consider your New Year's gift from me. Remember Russian III and IV, you'll see some of the preliminary skills from Russian II since we're all in this together. After that we split off into groups to review through our exercises, study vocabulary, and Russian IV learned how to form verbal adverbs (what fun!).

Friday is for celebrating the New Year! We'll sing, cook, and finish our presentations. Remember that you can bring extra food or snacks, but I'll be teaching some Russian recipes for you too.


There are plenty of exercises in the textbook to help you review your skills. We'll take a look at them after break to spot check and help each other out.

Homework for the Weekend - A Day - 21 November

AP Research

I really enjoyed our conferences today and the clarification that you were able to bring to our conversations. If we didn't conference today, then we will on Monday. Over the weekend, it's important that you work to complete any of these questions to add specificity to your method and research proposal.

Over the weekend, complete the Method Outline form. Be sure that you're working through all the parts of this element of your paper. Having this done will lead you to a much easier time when writing the paper. Additionally, complete as much as you can of the DPS proposal. Be sure that all of your supporting documents and tools are with it so that you can pass IRB.

Russian I

Today in class we finished our review of the cities in Russia and then we had time for our verb quiz reassessment. If you weren't in class today, you can complete the reassessment at home or with me. Just remember that if you want to redo the vocabulary score, then you'll have to do that with me.


Over the weekend finish your work on Prepositional Case by completing the exercise on page 53. Read the sentence and make the needed change so that you can show prepositional case. Next week we'll learn a new case!

Advanced Russian

Today in class we took our spelling quiz on numbers before we ordered some groceries in Russian to practice our dialogue skills and our number skills. I liked what you all were doing because you're showing growth in your skills. Keep working and studying and you will keep growing. Next week we'll have a short week - so it's time to review our skills before we move on.


Complete your exercises related to your new grammar topics. Russian II should complete exercises in Chapter 5 - numbers 12, 15, and 16. Russian III should complete exercises in Chapter 8 - numbers 7, 8, and 11. Russian IV should read the section of Chapter 11 on Participles and complete the guided notes.

Homework for A Day - 13 November 2019

AP Research

Today we had an assessment followed by working time. I was happy with what I saw on the assessment. If you missed something, it was probably because you were confusing unethical practices with poor method design. Remember that if we're working in the spirit of ethics, we are doing what is needed. There are some issues that we can't correct, but we need to be able to explain them clearly.

Tonight your first priority is to complete your DRAFT proposals. Submit that to Google Classroom so that I can read and review. After that, it's time to start constructing the pieces for your beast. Think about your method. Conference with your peer. Log your work and conferences! Think about your consent forms and instruments. Keep grinding away!

Russian I

Today in class we started our work with cases. We're focusing on learning the PREPOSITIONAL CASE first because the changes are pretty straightforward and easy to track and see. Tonight, practice with this first case by completing the exercise given to you. Look at the question. Write your answer using the verb жить - to live. Be sure to put the word in the parenthesis in the PREPOSITIONAL CASE by changing the ending.


Remember that we'll have our verb quiz reassessment next week. Review and study - let me know what you may need.

Advanced Russian

Today in class was all about numbers, the genitive case, and vocabulary! Lots of new words and information today in class, so we'll be working with it over the next few days. Begin to learn the numbers and the questions/prepositions used with them. Tonight, your homework is pretty basic. Learn the numbers. Learn how to say them. Write them. Use them. The more that you do, the better you will learn.


Complete the three exercises on the sheet I gave you today in class. Write out all numbers as words. Be sure that you are focused on learning the spelling and the pronunciation of the words. We'll be playing with numbers all this week!

Homework for Monday - A Day - 4 November

Welcome to Q2! We're going to keep the party going as we move toward our breaks in this quarter of the year.

AP Research

Today we had a very thorough lesson on ethics as it pertains to designing our method and making sure that we always work with ethics in mind. I've posted today's slides as well as the TEDxVictoria talk on ethics and honesty in research/science.

These issues are all important for us to consider as we develop our means of completing our research and fill out our proposal to Durham Public Schools. Remember that part of submitting our work to outside review is to ensure that we are working ethically.

Tonight, prepare for our workday next class. I'm going to sit down and speak with you about your expert advisers. Are you prepared for that conversation? Are you completing your proposal? Are you making decisions with justification? We should be working and chipping away regularly - that's how we will get this finished!

Russian I

Today in class we reviewed the process for completing First and Second Conjugation! Now we know a lot about how to work with verbs. Remember that we either drop ть or we drop it like it's hot. Then we add the ending. Remember the key questions:

1. Who is doing the action?
2. Is it first or second or a mutant?
3. If you know these questions you can do the conjugation.


To review tonight we have an exercise focused on just second conjugation and then a mixed one! Do what you can and be ready for another help session! We'll have our quiz on Friday.

Advanced Russian

Today in class we were working all together to review the essentials of aspect and then we split to look at our individual topics in more depth. Remember that there will be a quiz on Friday related to new vocabulary (Russian III and IV) and key words related to aspect (Russian II). Start preparing now for this quiz.

Tonight you should continue to work through exercises to practice with your skills. Russian IV and III have exercises on paper. Russian II are on page 215. Be sure that you find the key words to choose the aspect, then use the list of verbs to find the right verb and put it in its proper form. Don't forget - lose the coin toss - show me your work!

Homework for the Weekend - A Day - 30 October

Here are today's slides where we reviewed method. Be sure that this weekend you begin to work on your work moving forward and that you organize your PREP folder completely. Remember that there should start to be content in more of your sub-folders like PROPOSAL and CONFERENCES. Also, the Planning Out the Work log should reflect all the tasks you've completed in the first quarter.

This weekend research THREE potential Expert Advisers. These should be people you could actually contact. You can have more than one and they can be shared. Create a Google Doc in WEEKLY WORK and explain why they are a good adviser for you. Do research into the work they do.


Don't forget that you should be working on your PROPOSAL Draft daily as well as your REFLECTION for the week on today's lesson. Do a bit every day and this will get done!

Russian I

Today in class we thoroughly reviewed the way in which we complete FIRST CONJUGATION and the different endings and how we use those endings to discuss who is doing what. This weekend be sure that you are practicing by completing the exercises. Read the sentence. Who is the noun? What ending do they need?

Also, remember that some verbs have to be memorized - these are the mutants. Be sure to go back and look at how we conjugated the verb TO LIVE as you do that exercise.

We'll have more time to work on our projects next class and on Wednesday. Be ready for a spelling quiz on Friday!

Advanced Russian

Today we had a class focused on exercise review in order to understand the new concepts that we are learning. The homework that you have this weekend will review those concepts. Here are some notes for each of the groups.

Russian II - We have to focus on how to pick the proper aspect. First, think about the key words that indicate a repeated action versus a one time action. Use the words in Chapter 5 (page 200-201) and the other words you see in the exercises. As you complete your exercises, be sure to pick the right verb for the situation.

Russian III and IV - Focus on learning your declensions! It helps so much to have it memorized. Consider which case is needed for the situation and which words help you to finish the task. Fill in the blanks and check yourself!

Homework for the Weekend - 24 October - A Day

AP Research:

You did it! First major milestone reached - you pitched, presented, and gave feedback to each other. One of the first things to do before moving forward is to reflect on the feedback you were given and make any needed alterations. Remember, it's all about having a solid foundation and course before we chart out into the wilderness.

This weekend you should be sure to read the instructions for your proposal. I gave you a paper version of the packet so that you could read, annotate, and write any questions you may have. This is also a good chance to start to plan your proposal and the supporting documentation that you will need.

Lastly, I'll be doing a final check of PREP folders on Sunday. Be sure that you have the following:

1. Your Assessment Task Drafts Folder should have your pitch, poster, Annotated Bibliography, and the Introduction Outline (list of nine elements with description and purpose).

2. Your Planning Out the Work log should be reflective of all the work you have done this quarter.

3. Don't forget to download the instructions to your PREP folder.

4. Do you have all seven reflections from Quarter 1 as well?

Russian I

We did some great work this week as we really learned how to conjugate verbs in Russian as well as the various ways to talk about possession and people. This weekend, your homework is pretty light. I would recommend being sure that you have focused on any information you're still not sure on since we'll be moving a bit quicker in Quarter 2. 

First, I really recommend Duolingo - especially when it comes to verb conjugation. Download this program and use it. Many of you can probably test out of the first few exercises and lessons.

Second, decide on the city you'll study for your project. Write an ACES paragraph which goes over why you have chosen this city. Write at least four sentences in English. Be sure to use clear evidence and explain your evidence in your paragraph!

Advanced Russian

Today in class we finished watching Anna Karenina Part Two before moving on to our language task for the day. The main thing we did was discuss and review the five types of verbal action in Russian. We really focused on the first three, since the last two are a bit complicated. This was what we used to write about Anna and her story as we focused on choosing the proper verb (imperfective or perfective) as well as conjugation. Russian IV was focused on combining the sentences using words like who/which/that and then.

This weekend for homework we have some various assignments:

Russian II - Using the chart on types of verbal action, a dictionary/translator, and your skills at verbs, complete exercise 5.15 on page 213. Look for key words in the sentence to help you make the verb choice. Then conjugate to fill in the blank.

Russian IV - Read Chapter One of Anna Karenina and answer the questions in English to review your comprehension of the story. Then, in your textbooks, complete exercises 11.8 and 11.9 on pages 482-483.

Also - remember our talk at the beginning of class. You don't have time in this class for anything except learning more Russian. Stay focused on that and everything will still remain fun.

Homework for 28 August - A Day

AP Research

If you didn't have your paperwork to turn in today, please make sure that we have it by the end of the week. Today we did some good work related to understanding key terms and seeing how those terms are really at the foundation of our work in AP Research. We then started to apply that work to our Dry Run before having time to set up our PREP.

Tonight you have some application related to our terms. Go to the list of all Nobel Prize winners and pick one that particularly interests you. Do some research and be able to define their problem statement, gap, and research question. Don't forget to put this work in your PREP. Also be sure to take a look at the weekly log.

Russian I

Today in class we learned some new letters, practiced with the old and the new, and we even got the chance to order a coffee in Russian. All great things to know how to do.

Be sure that you are reviewing your letters and words every day. That's the goal right now, to know the alphabet and sounds inside and out. Tonight please complete the handwriting practice that you can and keep focusing on learning your vocabulary.

Advanced Russian

Lots of good time in class today as we had some fun with verbs and spent our time looking at charades and figuring out exactly what people are doing. Then we did work related to conjugating and our One Stem Verb System. Tonight you have an exercise to help you with learning our two systems - truncation and addition. Follow the example from what we did in class today and fill out your chart based on what you see. We'll review this on Friday!

AP Seminar

Today in class we had our final 360 review of the class (focused on IMPODs) and then we took time for arts and crafts with our class handout. These new handouts are due on Thursday. It should reflect the goals of the class and give someone a good overview of the class. Be creative! Have fun!

For the next two classes you'll be watching a film - Good Night and Good Luck. Consider how this film would be different if the people in it had taken AP Seminar.

Advanced Russian

Today in class we had a fair amount of fun with participles - is that even possible? With me it is. Over the weekend we should all be actively working on our song projects to identify Russian II and III skills. Additionally we have our exercise on participles. Complete seven additional exercises and turn the participles back into который phrases. Follow the instructions and path we did today.

This is also a good time to mention our final exam. Remember that it will review all of the skills we have learned this year. Be prepared and begin to study now. It'll make life a lot easier in the future.

Russian I

Today in class we spent some time reflecting on Russians and their memory of World War II (The Great Patriotic War) before taking our quiz on plurals in nominative case. Over the next few days you should all begin to prepare for your final exam. We won't be learning any new content - it's all about review from here on out. Start with your vocabulary. Go through Chapters 1, 2, and 3 this weekend and make your vocabulary study lists. This will also help with reminding yourself of the grammar topics.

I hope that you all crushed it today. You walked in feeling tired, but you walked out feeling like a boss. On Thursday we'll start our concluding activities and building the bridge to AP Research. Enjoy your rest tonight - you've certainly earned it!

Advanced Russian

Today in class we had our quiz on short-form versus long-form adjectives before going to return to our song projects. I am very impressed by the work you are putting in with your projects. Be on the lookout for things you think you should know, but don't. Additionally, as you work through the lyrics, be sure to mark questions you may have. Remember that you may not yet know what the vocabulary is or the grammar is - that's part of working with living texts.

Our next checkpoint is next week where we will review any Russian II skills apparent in the song.

Tonight for homework I would recommend reading over the section of Chapter 11 which focuses on participles. Read over pages 466-474. Take notes as you are reading. Write questions. We'll go through this information on Thursday in a slow and methodical way with lots of examples to help.

Russian I

Now we have reviewed the process for forming plurals in the nominative case for all genders and all parts of speech. Last class we worked through the regular process and today we looked at irregulars. Remember that all of the irregulars are only for nouns - there are no irregular adjectives or other parts of speech.

To practice, complete exercises 3.1 and 3.2 A and Б. In these exercises you'll be working with regular and irregular plurals. Apply your notes and make your changes!

Weekend Work - B Day - 26 April 2019

We are almost done with April, which means that the last few classes of the year are upon us. Be sure that you're making clear progress toward our final goals for all of our classes.

AP Seminar

It was all about the exam today! EOC A and EOC B. I hope that you appreciated my strategies and tips for success. Today I unveiled to you one of my favorite things - the dirty outline. If you like it, great, if not, find something else.

This weekend I want you to do your planning for EOC B. Come in to class with your "planning" - Have what you would need to write your assignment. Also, time yourself, remember you only have 90 total minutes.

Next class we'll look at sample items, the scoring rubrics, and sample student responses with commentary so that we know what we're expected to produce.

Advanced Russian

THE AP EXAMINATION FOR RUSSIAN IS ON MAY 1 IN THE MEDIA CENTER. WE WILL BEGIN PROMPTLY AT 9:00 AM. BE EARLY.

Today in class we had time to review short form versus long form adjectives as well as interesting cases of vocabulary meaning related to these words. We also had some time to work on our final projects, and I outlined the requirements for these final projects.

Over the weekend I would spend time with two things. First, I would be sure to review my vocabulary and my skills related to forming and using short-form adjectives. This is where your exercises are really helpful. Be sure that exercises 11.4, 11.5, and 11.6 are complete for next class. Additionally, I would check in on my final project. Have you found your Russian I skills?

Some of you are missing work in the gradebook. The end is coming. Get your things turned in or resubmitted.

Lastly, we'll work on который next week. Read over this brief discussion in your textbook. This link is also a helpful resource.

Russian I

Today we reviewed the process for forming adverbs from adjectives and from nouns before we practiced with dominoes to make our matches. Next class I'll want to see that you can do all of this work. You will have a quiz focused on forming adverbs, vocabulary knowledge, and the use of conjunctions in Russian.

Study our recent class notes and activities. Be prepared for this assessment. Remember that we really have just one more topic left for the whole year.
