I hope that those of you taking AP Examinations (APES and Psych) felt ready and prepared. Hopefully as you're taking some of these other exams you can use some of our strategies here in class. Be sure that if you're missing class for any reason that you catch up with the recordings!

AP Language

Today was our day to review FRQs for the last time. I hope that if any of you are doing a revision or a new version of an FRQ that today and last class have been especially helpful for you. If you've missed class, then you need to be sure to review the recordings. Next class we'll make our plan for the exam and then have time for the choice board and conferences.

We will be closing out and moving toward our final examination period starting around May 16. You should have all of your choice board activities completed by that date and your class grades finished. The final doesn't relate to these skills, so that's why we're moving on to the final and finalizing grades.

Please submit your artifacts and plan your conferences. I'm here Wednesday and Thursday after school, and you can come in to Lion Time as well!

AP Research

Easy peasy in AP Research since we're over the hump and past the submission date. I'm very happy that everyone submitted their drafts and met final goals. Now it's time for us to close our year together. Be sure that you complete your grades for Quarter 4. Submit your final reflections and your final tasks here as they are completed. Everything should be done by May 16 so that we can move firmly into our final examination tasks.

Remember that your final examination tasks are due on May 31. That is the date of our final. Be sure that you have reviewed your options and planned your course ahead. All of our days are working days in the month of May with the exception of the final when you'll present one of your artifacts.

25 October - Tuesday

AP Language

Solid conversation this morning across time periods. Looking at Hughes, Lorde, and Steele gives us some interesting ideas to track like identity, power, truth, and the fleeting nature of money. It's important to ask ourselves where we put our power as people. These three authors show us various routes to power and various points of view. The recording summarizes our key takeaways.

Tonight you have Chapter 3. Read and annotate for details. It's another party and all the colors are at play. Consider how identity is in flux in this chapter and what we learn about our main characters and how we learn it. Keep building vocabulary and tracking your color as you move through the novel.

Lastly, as I said, if you have things that are out there - turn them in. Get a grade and then my feedback to improve your tasks/work. I will be actively grading this week to update scores before the end of the grading period.

AP Research

Today's class focused on the final aspect of the introduction of the paper - the literature review. This section will serve many important roles for you and do a lot of the heavy lifting to support your research question. The ideas we came to about showing links and conversations between the sources is key. Consider how the earlier source list and annotated bibliography can help you to complete these tasks.

Next class will be a workshop day focused on our posters and pitches. We'll present these next week. If you have tasks to complete for the first quarter, be sure that those are in as soon as possible. My scores are due on Monday.

Homework for A Day Students - Weekend - Valentine's Day - 2/14/2020

AP Research

We're just working, working, working as we keep building our task. Remember that you should complete your BOK Analysis and then the two reflections left for you on Google Classroom. Remember that one will focus on presentation, and one will focus on alignment in the paper. Take a look at your findings and takeaways on this assignment. Be sure to use this as you're building your Lit Review. (We'll focus on this next week).


We'll be peer editing our papers on the 24th. Be sure that you have a complete introduction, lit review, and method (as much as possible). Remember that you can write based on projections and then make edits later.

Russian I

Today in class was a day to review the way in which we build complete sentences and agreement between adjectives and nouns. Remember that we're using our Chapter 1 knowledge to know what to do with nouns and our Chapter 2 knowledge to know what to do with adjectives. Keep studying and reviewing how to make these changes.


I was happy to see your improvement on the Backpack assignment. I'll have these back to you soon. Please complete your exercises this weekend - Chapter 2, Exercise 2 and 4 - Use your cases and notes to do this work. Remember to focus on learning your colors - we'll have a quiz on vocabulary next week!

Advanced Russian

Class today was a day for playing with verbs of motion to talk about traveling around Moscow. As we worked with this activitiy we were using actual Russian texts (maps) to talk about our travels. Remember our process - We use A sentences to talk about plans (What we will do.) We use B sentences to talk about going (travel to a destination in the moment). We use C sentences to talk about round trips (Today I went to the Kremlin).

Remember Russian III and IV, it's not enough to use the prefix - you need a preposition too!


Over the weekend, continue to study your cards and complete the remaining exercises. We'll have more time to work with our verbs next week. Don't forget to make corrections to your quizzes for a reassessment.

Homework for the Weekend - B Day - 11 October

AP Literature

Here we go into philosophy which may make you pull your hair out. Or you may just realize that nothing really matters and hair is just a social construct. Anyway, here we go into Unit 2. Remember that we'll start reading The Stranger by Albert Camus on Thursday - please secure a copy by then. We have some in class you can use if needed.

Over the weekend you should finish your visual representation related to your oppression work. These visuals are due on Tuesday. You can present to the class, or to your teachers privately. We are also reading a short story this weekend - Susan Glaspell's "A Jury of Her Peers". As you read pay attention to the three philosophies at play in the story as well as the way that dialogue is used. Try and apply the philosophies as you read.

By this point, everything from Unit 1 should be complete. If you have questions or concerns, see us.

AP Research

Your work is the same as your colleagues in A-Day. The main goal is your annotated bibliography entries by Sunday. There's also your sixth reflection question. Remember that next week we'll be moving on into pitches and poster projects, the work in the Annotated Bibliography will really help you here. There are going to be many workshop days ahead, which will be helpful for us all!

B-Day Homework and Reminders

AP English Literature 
Good job hanging in there while writing our first in class essay! I know some of us had mixed feelings about our writing, but that's okay! We need to start somewhere and now we will just keep improving our writing for the real test in May.
For Friday:
1. Read Flannery O'Connor's "A Good Man is Hard to Find" on pages 454-467. Look for irony, shifts in tone and connections to "Good Country People."
2. Make sure your outlines are turned in online! I have most of the outlines, but not all of them, so make sure they are turned in on Google Classroom!
3. I will get your outline rubrics back to you on Friday. This means your project presentations/ artifacts will be due next Tuesday.
4. If you have any questions about college admissions, Ms. E's information is in the ppt presentation from today on Google Classroom.
