19 and 20 April

AP Language

Sad face for our last seminar today. Simply because it was our last one of the year - and that makes me sad. I was glad to see your thoughts related to Emerson, King, and a way to solve some of our social ills - transcendentalism. I hope that you enjoyed your discussions, connections, and time to engage with each other.

Your first round of reflections are due. Remember that the grade will not be entered until the end of the unit. Submit what you have now and be ready for the next check at the end of the month. Meet your goals. Keep your schedule.

Next class will be our second full AP MCQ, review your first one, your strategies, your feedback. I'm willing to meet in advance if you need to. You'll have time with your novels as well!

English 10

So much energy in the room today as we reviewed for our exam next week. I've posted your completed study guide and recording from today's class to help you study and prepare. Your exam is at the beginning of next week - it's open note and open Schoology, so use your resources and be ready!

From there we took time to work on our projects a bit and review for our next in-class essay. The essay is going to be next class. You'll have the whole period to write your essay. You can use any of our notes from today. This is your last required in-class essay of the year, so I'm hoping to see the most improvement so far. See our recording if you were absent! I'll see you next time.

Homework for A-Day - 28 January 2020

AP Research

Today was our working day in preparation for Elevator Pitch 2.0 on Thursday. Be ready to present to your peers on Thursday. You should have slides in Assessment Task Drafts and you should have cards/a script if needed. Remember that we are building the final deal - try to make sure that things are in alignment with our rubrics, and that the paper matches the presentation.

I look forward to dropping in to some of your presentations on Thursday. We'll also have our reflection for the week on Thursday before we go on to Unit 4 next week!

I've also included a really helpful resource on Google Classroom on statistical tests from Ms. Saveliff. Please direct any questions to her!

Russian I

Today in class we finished our crazy cartoon and really focused on being able to analyze our cases as they are used in questions, answers, and various constructions. Our other key focus was on the different triggers for cases that we see in Russian. Remember that knowing the triggers, the jobs, and the endings is one of your major learning goals for this unit. Hopefully the repetition has helped.

Your projects are due at the end of the week. You should have a slide for each question and then a photo that goes along with it. Don't forget to finish the rest of your sentences on the homework. Put the words in order and make the changes that you need to make to them.

Advanced Russian

Today in class we spent a lot of time with exercises and with translations. As we do this work we are really trying to learn the way to think through these situations. Is it an A, B, or C situation? What's the tense? Is the effect of the action still there? These questions will help us to get to the proper verb.

Tonight you should complete the exercises we did not get to today - the odds. Add your notes. Determine if it's an A, B, or C. Find key words. Use your cards. Hopefully you are studying the cards regularly to learn this vocabulary.

You'll have a quiz next week on our first four verbs of motion. It'll focus on vocabulary mostly and some grammar. If you're studying the cards daily then you'll be set for the assessment. If you were absent, be sure to check the slides.

Homework for A Day - January 13, 2020

Advanced Russian

Today we had an exam so there are no slides to post. Continue to study your vocabulary and review any grammar topics where you encountered difficulty. I'll have your exams scored for you ASAP and then we will do corrections before the end of the quarter on Friday. Be sure that you have checked for any missing assignments on PowerSchool since this is the last week of the grading period.

Russian I

Tonight everyone there's not much to take care of - take a look at the reading in Chapter 1. It's the paragraph at the end of the vocabulary section - read through the paragraph, translate it, and find the cases that are being used. The translation and the endings would be the most helpful thing for you here.

Next class we'll finish The Irony of Fate and do some review for our reassessment. The reassessment is on Friday. Be ready, study and prepare!

AP Research

Great work today researchers! We had a solid lesson in which we reviewed the instructions to the academic paper and the rubric - a good task for us to complete as we are working to construct our own drafts. For tonight you should continue writing your introduction/lit review in advance of our writing workshop. To help you with this I have attached two additional sample papers on Google Classroom. These papers are examples of the middle/lower side of the rubric. Take a look and assess them in the same way we did in class. Consider what changes could be made to further solidify their work.

Homework for A Day - 4 December 2019

AP Research

Tomorrow is our next major milestone! IRB Day! I'll be meeting with the committee to review your work and get you the approval to begin your data collection and interaction with subjects. I'm excited and a bit scared for tomorrow, but I think that it'll go well. I hope to be able to give you a word on your approval or revisions at the end of the day on Thursday.

Tonight you should be writing. That's really the goal while you're waiting to hear what comes next. Next class we'll be having an AP Research lesson to help us prepare for the steps ahead. Use this time to get a handle on what you already have. Don't forget to finish your method outlines if you did not show them to me today.

Russian I

Great work today with your translations, vocabulary and grammar! I'm very impressed with what you were all able to do and produce today. Remember that we have a test on Friday on grammar and vocabulary. You'll be really successful if you study your vocabulary from Chapter 1 and the grammar skills we used in the translations.

Don't forget that you have the chance to earn a lot of extra credit with your exercise review. You have to turn it in at the beginning of class on Friday to get credit for it. I've also put our song down below so that you can keep listening. We'll practice more on Friday after the test.

Advanced Russian

Today we continued working with our vocabulary in order to be able to write a brief story. Remember that as we do this work related to vocabulary development, you have to realize that this is how you study for Russian. You have to use and do in order to really learn.

From there we had time for our projects related to culture or grammar before wrapping up our review of the various exercises we've been working on to solidify our grammar knowledge. Remember that you have a grammar quiz next week on Tuesday. To finish our preparation you'll be working on Holiday Shopping, Russian style.

Homework for A Day Students - 14 October

AP Research

Today's class focused on the first pitch and poster. Remember that we will present our posters and our pitches on the 24th and this will be the last grade of Q1. All other works should be submitted by that point.

If you haven't yet completed and submitted your AB to Google Classroom, please do so as soon as possible. It is my goal to return feedback to you on Friday and conference with each of you on your AB work. Help me to facilitate that process by submitting your documents as quickly as you can.

Our next major step is the outline and draft of the introduction - to follow the posters - and then the research proposal. The proposal will go through two steps - a draft and formal review by the district. I'll share the forms with you once they are approved by Dr. Spencer.

Russian I

Today in class we took a quiz on gender and vocabulary before finishing our film, Russia Revealed. I really like this film due to the fact that it shows that Russia is a very diverse land with not just a bunch of blue eyed, blond people.

Tonight for homework I want you to do a few things. First, complete the exercises to review gender and possession. This is good practice especially if you weren't too prepared for the quiz today. After that, you should work on the back. Look at the verbs. What can you tell about them? How do they work? What do they mean? These are examples of many of our verbs in this unit. So knowing these patterns will help a lot!

Advanced Russian

Today in class we spent time working with Russian texts so that we would be better prepared for the examination next class. Remember that the exam will be focused on verbs in their various forms. You should be able to work with verbs in all tenses (past, present, future) and be able to identify key information about them (tense, stem, form, infinitive, etc.). For the examination on Wednesday you will have a section that asks you to conjugate given some information about a verb. Then there will be a section much like today's in-class progress. Find and explain a variety of verbs.

Prepare by reviewing old quizzes, studying verb cards, and reviewing the appendix in your textbook starting at page A-25.

Homework for the Weekend - A Day - 10 October

AP Research

The main goal is to work through your Annotated Bibliography entries and submit them to Google Classroom by Sunday. I'm going to have a lot of reading ahead of me, so submitting soon will expedite my process. Please use the templates you have as well as the rubric to guide your work.

I've also updated the reflection document with number six. Complete that over the weekend if you can - but the priority is the Annotated Bibliography.

Russian I

Next class we'll have a quiz on possessive pronouns before moving on to finishing our movie on Russia's culture. Be sure that you're ready by knowing the three genders in Russian, the vocabulary related to ownership, and some of our new vocabulary words.

Advanced Russian

Next class will be our final practice before the One Stem Verb Examination. Be sure that you're using our tasks today in class to guide your study since you'll be working with authentic texts. Can you see verbs? Can you work with them back to their infinitive? Do you see the cases working with these verbs? All of these questions will show just how well you can use this system for what it can do.

Homework for B-Day Students - 8 April 2019

AP Seminar

Let's just remind ourselves of our goals. By the end of this week you should have a full working draft of your IWA that is approaching a finishing stage. I think that we're at the point with these documents that we can start to construct our IMP slides as well. Remember what we have seen from our high scoring samples. Remember how the slides should be used. You may find it helpful to take a small break from the paper to get to the slides.

All slides are due the same day. You'll submit your slides to Google Classroom. All IWAs are due to Digital Portfolio ASAP. Remember that once you submit the final copy, there are no more changes allowed.

Advanced Russian

Today in class we reviewed and/or learned a key topic - the use of the double negative in Russian. This can be a bit tricky - but if you remember the key rules, then you're in good shape. With this, Russian II students are finished with Unit 7 Grammar. You all should take tonight to review concepts using the handout (also available in Google Classroom). Describe the weather and use double negatives to talk about what doesn't happen in that weather.

Russian III students should use the idea of double negatives to practice more with imperatives. Write a brief story using five imperatives. Try to use different types. Make some positive, make others negative.

Also be aware that all project work is due. The last day to submit or work in class is Wednesday. Your exam will come quickly after Easter break. Be aware!

Russian I

Today in class we had time to practice with our vocabulary and a bit of grammar practice. The important thing to remember is that we have an exam coming on Friday which will cover topics from Chapter One and Two. As you're preparing - we should be memorizing. Make sure that you know your endings. Be sure that you know how to make your changes. Can we go through verbs, adjectives, nouns, and all the other words that require changing? My biggest way to prepare is to make cards - kill and drill! Memorize those endings and the process of changing.

Be sure that you've completed your exercises in Chapter Two - these are so helpful in doing this work. I can also help if you need it.

Our last day for research on our projects is Wednesday. All slideshows should be submitted by the end of class on Wednesday.

Homework for B-Day Students - 18 December

Russian I

Today we took our first unit examination focused on verb conjugation, vocabulary knowledge, gender, and possessive pronouns. I'll have the scores entered by the end of the week. You'll have a chance after we return to resubmit the test and redo certain sections. Be focused on learning and memorizing your vocabulary! The more you use it, the more it sticks.

For tonight you have some reading in your textbook about CASES. Read over pages 31 to 37 and be able to answer the following questions:

  1. What are cases? Generally?
  2. What do cases do in a language?
  3. Which cases does Russian have?
  4. What job do these cases have in Russian?
As we move forward, we'll be focusing on one case at a time as a means of understanding how the cases work. This is all about what's going on after the verbs!

We also have our poet work. Over break you should focus on your memorization! Remember that you need to find four lines (at least) and memorize these. You'll also need to make a brief presentation about your poet.

Advanced Russian

We have a test next class on Chapter Eight (Russian III) and Chapter Five (Russian II). I've imported the scores from today's vocabulary reassessment and changed earlier grades. Remember that your Calendar and Writing Project is due next class as well. I'll expect your calendar as well as your writing assignment - at least one full paragraph.

There is also the work on your poets to begin with. Remember that the length requirement is longer for Russian II and Russian III - see the information in Google Classroom for that.

AP Seminar

After today's class everyone has submitted a "rough version of the question" as well as their group contracts. It's now time to continue to move forward. On Thursday we'll have more time in our groups to continue researching and moving forward. As was stated in class today, the IRR (ARRRRRRRGH) is part of this process. It's important to start building that as we are moving through this process as well.

Homework for the Weekend - B Day - 10 October

DPS will be closed tomorrow - Thursday - for staff and students with the approach of the hurricane from the south. This means that our next B day will be on Monday.

Russian I

You all now have an extra few days to study for your alphabet examination. As a review of your study guide, be sure that you can:

  • pair letters with their sounds in Russian
  • recognize printed and handwritten letters
  • understand basic rules for formality in greetings, farewells, and names
  • put a Russian name in the proper order (first, middle, last)
  • identify key elements of Russian geography
This is a unit examination, so everything that we have done all quarter could be on this test. Study and prepare yourselves. Remember that all of our important slides and handouts are located in Google Classroom.

Advanced Russian

The storm coming in also is a bit of a relief for some of you as it gives you extra time to complete any of your reassessments or redos of old work. For the test on Monday you'll be asked to show that you can conjugate a variety of verbs in both past and non-past. You'll be asked to identify stems and show an understanding of what these stems do to verbs.

There will also be information related to prepositional, accusative, and nominative case on this exam since these are the cases that we have been using the most often so far.

Remember that you have your replacement assignment for Quiz 1 and you can redo Quiz 2 and earn back partial credit. Please be sure to reach out if you need additional help as you are preparing for your exam on Unit 4.

AP Seminar

I would direct all of you to the slides and to your TMPOD groups if you were not in class today. We spent the majority of our time working on our Annotated Bibliographies and consulting in teams about how the IRR work is helping us to better clarify and define our topics. With us not having school tomorrow we will see each other again on Monday. Be sure that you watch the high level TMPOD (video in Google Classroom) and that you have worked through approximately SIX sources for your annotated bibliography.

Homework for Wednesday - 8 October - B Day

AP Seminar

Hopefully after today's conversation related to dinner parties, similarities and differences, and points of view or perspectives, you have a bit more of an idea of what to do. Be sure to check the slides in Google Classroom if you need to.

As we move through the week, your task is to construct your annotated bibliography for your IRR. Remember to use the planning document and arrange your work around the rows of the rubric for the IRR. Your draft of the AB is due to me at the end of class on Friday. I'll go over the rubric with you on Wednesday for this.

Advanced Russian

Given what I am seeing from some of these quizzes it looks like many of you have a better idea of what you are doing and some of you still are struggling. Again, this is the last week to reach out for help and to make real improvements in what you are doing and in what you are able to do. Be sure that you are ready for the examination on Friday.

As you prepare be sure that you have settled any missing assignments or assignments with low grades. Be sure that you have learned your stems, your conjugation rules, and your cases that we have focused on in this unit. If you are still having problems, you know where I am.

Russian I

Today's class really was our final day of new information related to the unit examination. On Friday you'll have an exam that will cover the alphabet, sounds of the Russian language, greetings/introductions/farewells, information related to gender, and vocabulary. There may also be some questions related to our Russian city presentations as well as the cultural knowledge related to names and formality. We've gone over everything - be sure that you are ready.

If you need to, check out Google Classroom and Duolingo as a way to study and prepare.

Homework for B-Day Students: 20 September 2018

See you all next week! Remember that there are major assessments coming for all of you next week - be ready by following the guidelines below.

AP Seminar

We will have our first Unit Examination on Monday. Remember that this will cover Freakonomics through fifty multiple choice questions and the EOC Task A. You'll have all 90 minutes to complete the assessment. Remember that you will be timed.

In order to prepare I would do the following:

  • review your annotations and summer questions on Freakonomics (remember that if you added the class late/didn't turn in your summer assignment on day one then it is due on Monday)
  • review our key terms for class, especially - Line of Reasoning, Claim, Evidence, Argument
  • review our notes from Unit 1
  • go over the sample responses from today's class and the prompt for EOC Task A
I think that many of you will do very well on this assessment. If you need help, please ask!

Advanced Russian

You all also have an assessment on Monday - it will cover the One Stem Verb System in Russian for some of the most productive stems. I've uploaded the review sheet into your classroom on Google Classroom. You should be prepared to:

  • show a knowledge of how stems indicate important information about verbs
  • show how to read a conjugated verb in order to determine its stem
  • apply knowledge of stems to give a most likely conjugation of new verbs
  • show an understanding of Structural Transcription as it applies to stems
I would highly recommend working through the rest of your verb cards if you already have not, and you should complete Exercise 8Г on your own or with a colleague in order to review all of these skills together.

Russian I

We will take our first quiz on the alphabet on Wednesday. I would like to spend more time on Monday with another activity as well as with some cultural work which will help you to finish learning your sounds and shapes. Over the weekend, take time to finish your handwriting packets. This is the most important task. The handwriting packet is worth 100 points - so it is a large amount of work to complete. Be sure that you have finished learning your sounds and shapes - like I said in class, there are tons of online resources to help you with this.

Lastly, if you see anything missing in your gradebook - be sure to have it ready for me by the end of next week. Some of you need to turn in a paragraph on the film we watched. Take care of that this weekend, and then turn it in to me

Homework for A-Day - 5 March 2018

English IV

Today in class we watched some of the adventures of The Creature on his own in the world. He's learned and seen a lot - especially from the Delacey family. Tonight you have no homework to complete. I would recommend, however, if you have missed class or if you are behind on anything that you take a look at PowerSchool.

There are assignments available on Google Classroom that you can complete related to our final Frankenstein project. You can also get caught up on your reading. The quarter ends in three weeks! So it is important to get everything settled ASAP.

Russian Language Students (I, II, III)

All of you have exams coming on Friday. I have scheduled them on Friday so that all of you have the chance to get caught up and prepared through the week. Today in class we focused on several review exercises to help prepare you for Friday's exam. Tonight, I would recommend that you complete any of the following to help you prepare.

  1. Complete reassessments of previous projects for this class. When you do that, submit the project or the rubric (if the project is online) to me so that I know it's ready to be regraded.
  2. Complete any additional exercises to help you review concepts either from our textbook or from the UCLA Beginners Russian textbook which is available online.
  3. Complete the extra credit exercises - Russian I only.
  4. Complete your script for your quick recording - Russian II/III only.
No matter what you are doing to prepare - be sure that you are preparing daily for your unit examinations. Russian I will cover the Introduction, Chapters One and Two. Russian II will cover Chapter 6. Russian III will cover Chapter 6 and Chapter 10.

Monday, December 18, 2017

Homework for Russian Students - 18 December 2017

Both groups of Russian students have examinations on Wednesday. Please pay attention to the ideas below in order to prepare adequately.

Russian I

Your exam will cover what we have been learning recently in Chapter One related to verb conjugation and identification, case declensions, and case functions. You will also see a bit of vocabulary on this test. For the test you will have to make complete sentences in Russian as well as show what you know about how verbs and cases work. You may also want to take a look at your feedback from previous assessments.

Russian II

Your exam will cover the content and vocabulary in Chapter Five - specifically you will be asked a lot of questions about how aspect works as well as how to talk about time in Russian. You should review the content of Chapter Five, your notes, your exercises, and the examples that we have recently discussed related to time and prepositions. You may also want to take a look at your feedback from previous assessments.

Russian III

Your exam will cover the content and vocabulary in Chapter Eight - specifically you will be asked to show your knowledge of the words "all/every", "each other", "oneself", and the possessive reflexive pronoun. You will also see a lot of questions about time - both in standard format, conversational format, and with prepositions related to time. Be sure to look at your previous quizzes and exercises as many of the questions we have covered there will make themselves seen again.

I'll be available Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning for any last minute help you may need!

Homework for A-Day Students - 12 December 2017

English IV

Today we had a great class watching The Globe Theatre's production of Twelfth Night for scenes four and five in Act II. With that, we finished our study of Act II. I was happy to see so many of you actively watching and engaging with the play today - it showed when you caught the jokes and laughed out loud. We did some great analysis today of the play as well.

Next class we will go over our takeaways from Act II and start watching She's the Man - the modern adaptation of Twelfth Night. Be sure that for now you are working to prepare to make corrections to old tests and that you have looked over PowerSchool for any missing work or assignments - those assignments need to be turned in by Friday.

Advanced Russian

Today was a very productive class in which we reviewed our use of time expressions and prepositions as well as preparing for presentations and writings soon. Be sure that you are ready for your timed writing on Thursday (Russian II) or for your in class Russian presentation (Russian III).

Russian III - Be sure that you have your permission slips and notes for tomorrow and that you meet in my room no later than 8:30. We will complete the visual before we head over to UNC Chapel Hill for the day. Have your vocabulary cards ready. We'll have a good chance to finish preparing tomorrow morning. I'll have extra copies of the essay for us.

Next week is an assessment week for all of you. On Monday we will have the field test, and on Wednesday you will have your unit exams. We will finish preparing for the unit examinations on Thursday.

Russian I

Lots of fun today hearing about my misadventures as a nineteen year old in St. Petersburg. Ugh, if you all could have seen me then. The main thing that we reviewed today is where and why to use our three cases in Russian - NOMINATIVE/ACCUSATIVE/PREPOSITIONAL. Remember that there are key words (in, at, on, about) and key locations (before or after the verb) that help us to make these choices. This is all important for you all as we complete our exercises and get ready for Thursday.

Make sure that you've finished exercises 1, 2, 7, and 8 in the packet as best you can. Be sure that you have worked on your sentences about yourself and your friends (one male, one female). On Thursday we will go to the computer lab and put together our sentences and paragraphs so far and you will earn a project grade for this work.

As always, if you need additional help outside of class be sure that you are using your resources wisely to accomplish your goals. I am always here and can give suggestions of what you can do to improve.

Homework for A Day Students - 4 October 2017

Russian I

For Friday, make sure that you and your partners have turned in your Russian city project so that I have all of the presentations. You and your group will present your information to the class on Friday. We will also do a final review on Friday to prepare for our examination which will happen on Tuesday the 10th of October.

Also, remember the list: You have flown in to Moscow for a three-day trip. Who will you speak with during your time in Russia, in order? Make a list of at least six people.

Remember that if you have any missing work for Russian I, that it needs to be in to me by Friday. After the unit exam you cannot make up any work from the previous unit.

Advanced Russian

Next class we'll be spending some time talking about our family members and their pasts and the jobs that they have had. Take the time tonight to respond and get together your ideas related to Exercise 11. Where did the person live? What jobs did they have? Where did they move? We'll do much of what we did today, talking through ideas and asking questions.

Don't forget that our Chapter Four examination will be happening on Tuesday as well. Make sure that your'e studying and prepared for this upcoming examination.

English IV

We will be finishing the unit very soon, so if there is any work that you want to redo or work that you missed and haven't turned in, make sure that it is turned in very quickly. We'll be doing a bit more with The Canterbury Tales before we move on to finishing the unit with an exam and final writing assignment. Remember that all missing and redone work needs to be complete by the time we give the final unit exam.

Monday, March 13, 2017

Homework for A-Day: Monday, 13 March 2017

English II:

If any of you have any missing assignments from Google Classroom (mainly research projects), then it is important that you turn in those assignments as soon as possible. This is especially important if you've missed a lot of class recently.

Russian I:

Next class we will have our exam on Units 1 and 2 - This will cover the Introduction, Chapter One, and Chapter Two. Remember to use your study guides as well as your review packets to prepare for the exam. The review packet is a great way to earn credit on previous assignments as well (as many as FIVE previous assignments). Don't miss this opportunity.

Advanced Russian:

We took tests today. Yay for that.

Russian II - Focus on studying your new vocabulary as well as finishing your projects. Don't forget to submit those assignments online as soon as you have them done.

Russian III - You also have new vocabulary and the world map in Russian. For each of the selected countries be able to state the name of the country in Russian as well as the adjective which relates to the country (language/culture). You should also read over the information on short-form adjectives. We'll focus on studying this content as the first part of Chapter 11.

Russian IV - You have your project due on Friday. Be sure that you are using language of comparisons to talk about the similarities you see (or the differences) between the life of Dostoevsky as well as that of the narrator.

Thursday, March 9, 2017

Homework for A Day Students - 9 March

Advanced Russian:

We will have exams on Monday covering verbs of motion (with prefixes for Russian III and without for Russian II) and covering the first half of White Nights for Russian IV. Be sure to study and prepare for this exam by:

  • reviewing your previous assessments and reassessments
  • reviewing the examples and explanation in your textbooks
  • focusing on case rules and conjugation patterns
  • studying vocabulary
Your final projects are due on Wednesday - don't forget to submit them electronically.

Russian I:

Your final exam on Chapter Two will fall on Wednesday. Make sure that you use your study guide this weekend to prioritize your time over the weekend and into Wednesday. It is very important that you spend time with your charts to recognize the ways in which endings change to reveal cases and why these cases are used at certain points in different sentences.

Be sure to review your vocabulary in Chapter One and Chapter Two.

If you have any last assignments which you would like to resubmit, make sure that these are completed ASAP.

English II:

See the previous post for reminders about homework. Remember that the most important thing is to make sure that your Google Classroom projects are submitted and finished!

Tuesday, March 7, 2017

Homework for A-Day Students: 7 March

Advanced Russian:

For Thursday you should be ready to present one of the stages of your Russian Amazing Race to class. If you are not ready to submit the final project, that's okay - you have until the 15th of March to finish the project. Please share it electronically or turn it in on Google Classroom.

Russian II and III Students - You have your exam on Verbs of Motion coming next Monday. We'll finish our review on Thursday. Consider your conjugations, your prepositions paired with each verb, and the different cases used for coming and going to different types of places.

Russian IV - Continue reading through sections sixteen and seventeen and developing your knowledge of Nastya's character. Remember to do the same type of analysis work where you consider her language and her reactions as insights to her character.

Russian I:

We will finish the presentations on Thursday. If you presented today, your grades have been loaded into PowerSchool. I appreciated all of the ways that the presentations were made interactive. I also liked seeing everyone try to make origami.

For tonight, continue working on the five sentences we have left on our grammar review. Remember to study and review your vocabulary and your grammar notes. You should be actively reviewing all of the information in the book through Chapters One and Two (focus on your declension charts). Your exam will fall on Wednesday of next week. These last few days should be filled with questions and review!

English II:

If any of you can work on Google Classroom to improve or finish any assignments, that is what I would recommend you do!

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

B Day Homework for January 3rd

Welcome back from the break! I hope we all have a great start to 2017.

AP English III

You have many assessments coming up in the next two weeks. Be sure to stay on top of them or your grade will start falling fast, and you don't want to do everything the night before it's due.

On Thursday, we have our exam on The Crucible.  Don't forget to bring your copy of the play for the annotation check. We're not taking late books this time.

Part 1 will be character identifications (you choose four out of a list), where you say who the character is, their importance to the plot and to the allegory/Miller's argument. You need to cite specific scenes/moments in the play.

Part 2 will be the same as Part 1, except you'll be writing about the character you tracked.

Part 3 are short essays (one sentence argument followed by two or more well-developed body paragraphs and a short conclusion).  The essay questions will cover our discussion of The Crucible film, the character of John Proctor, and Mary Rowlandson.

We'll be working on our allegory plays in class after the test, and you'll be presenting them on Monday.

On Wednesday, your drama projects are due. This means delivering your monologue and turning in your rhetorical analysis and as well as your annotated monologue. We're giving you an whole extra week so you can have writing conferences with us--use it!

Remember to review your notes and read parts of Persepolis you may have missed in class. The test is coming up in two class periods.  Don't forget you can do the extra credit project to help with your test grade.

Next class, we'll be doing a review game for the test and working on our narratives. If you are behind on the narratives, work on them at home.

Homework for the Break - B Day Edition - 21 December 2016

Happy Solstice Everyone!  It's the longest night of the year tonight.  From here on out winter is only ending.  Here are your reminders as we are going into the break.

AP English III

Make sure that you have completed your reading and annotating of The Crucible by this point.  You should spend time over the break reviewing your notes and your reading to prepare for our final unit exam on this play.  That assessment will happen not too long after we return from break.

The major priority that you have over break is to work on your drama projects.  You should decide on your play (don't forget to make your post in the previous post to answer that question), read your play thoroughly, and select a monologue to study.  With your monologue, you will need to memorize, annotate, and analyze.  Put forward all of the skills you have learned with analysis as you do this work.

Ms. McCormick and I will be available when we return to review your work and give you feedback.

English II

Over the break if you would like to there is some extra credit that you can complete.  We have not read many chapters of Persepolis.  Over the break you can read these chapters and complete a writing assignment for extra credit.  For the extra credit you'll be either doing a pamphlet on Persepolis or writing a letter to the author, Marjane Satrapi.  Follow the instructions for this assignment and have it ready the day you return.

You can also spend time over break working on your hero narratives.  We'll finish these when we return from the holiday, but it may be a good idea to finish your rough draft of your comic now.
