Today we had our next ethical dilemma as well as our work with the DRAFT proposal form (simple really is better). I enjoyed having the opportunity to conference with you today. If we didn't talk today, then we'll talk on Friday.
Be sure that you are updating your PREP folder as we are working in this unit. Your expert adviser research should go in Weekly Work; there should also be the Planning Out the Work document that should be updated daily. Today, if we conferenced, be sure to log that in the conferences folder.
The proposal folder should also be populated. There's the DPS proposal form, copies of any questions or surveys, consent forms, and the DRAFT form.

Today in class we reviewed the way that we do conjugations for first and second type. It's an important process to learn. Be sure that you are taking a look at the process for first or second and then to learn the endings that are connected to each person.
Use the slides to remind yourself of the process. Use Duolingo to review too. I'm available for extra help if you need it. We also have exercises for practice too.
Next class we have our quiz on verb conjugation types and our city projects are due. Be ready for these assignments!

It was all about using the language today in class so that we could accomplish some key goals. It's really all about vocabulary right now - because knowing some of our key words and phrases will help us to make the choices that we need to make. Be sure that you're focused on vocabulary, declensions, and conjugations as we prepare for the assessment on Friday.
The assessment will focus on vocabulary (Everyone) and then be different for the different classes after that. Russian II will be deciding on which aspect and why. Russian III and IV will be looking at new vocabulary and declensions of those new vocabulary words.
Be sure - Russian II - that you have decided on a text for your aspect project. Also be sure to look over your exercises and your notes to review. If you have questions on exercises, I'm available outside of class.

Homework for 10/22 - A Day
It's nearly the end of the quarter! Be sure that your grades are complete and indicative of your work and abilities. If there is anything missing it should be settled up before the end of the week.

Today in class we had our second LIT REVIEW lesson. I think that this lesson makes good sense after the work we did last week on the webs to develop our subtopics and key details. Remember that your purpose is to educate your reader on what they need to know in order to fully understand the choices that you have made in your investigation.
On Thursday we have our posters and our pitches. Follow the templates that you've been given. Remember that your pitch should cover the three sentences in under 120 seconds. You'll receive feedback from your peers.
Next week we'll start Unit 3. Be sure that all of your work for Unit 1 and 2 is complete before we move forward.
Russian I
Today in class we took our reassessment on gender, possession words, and agreement. If you're still confused or having trouble with the concept, let me know. After that, it was time for our work on verb conjugation. Remember that when we conjugate a verb we have to know some information before we start - mainly if it's first or second, and if there's a mutation or not.
Tonight I want you to practice both of our key skills by working through Exercise 15. You're going to fill in blanks using pronouns, possessives, and verbs. Be sure that when you work with the verbs that you work with the information around the verb. Who is doing the action? What ending will show that this person is doing that action? Remember that this is the goal of conjugation - to state who does what clearly.
Advanced Russian
Today was a day to put our toes into our work in the new unit and then it was on to Anna Karenina. Tonight for homework/practice - you should continue to work with your new grammar skill related to Anna's story.
Russian II students should use a dictionary or the vocabulary in Chapter 5 to make a list of verbs that work for Anna both to discuss regular actions and one time actions. This will allow us to think about how we use these verbs and how to make key choices related to aspect. Russian III is looking at some new types of pronouns/adjectives which all undergo declension of some sort of declension. Think about using these to discuss Anna's life. Where can you use "all"/"each other" and "oneself"/"one's own" to discuss Anna's life? Russian IV are looking at который phrases and clauses. Remember the work this little word does, and how it acts like a pivot point in a complex sentence. Remember that it works on both sides. Write two sentences and then combine them!

Homework for B-Day - Monday - 18 March
AP Seminar
Today in class we had a really productive day of watching a mid-scoring IMPOD (good to give ourselves that to contrast from the other), some critical discussion, a review of outlines, and then independent working time. Remember that our final assessments of the quarter will fall on these last two days. Here's a review of what they are:
1. Elevator Pitches - Minor Grade - Have you stated your question? Stimulus document connection? Solution or argument for a solution? So What? How does this affect real people? You'll get ten points for your answer for each question.
2. Outline Conferences - Major Grade - Take me through your outline and show how you've addressed each row of the rubric. You'll receive ten points for each element of the rubric.
Be prepared for the end of the quarter. Remember that drafts of IWAs will be finished when we return from break!
Advanced Russian
Today in class we spent time reviewing our case functions and plural declensions (Russian II/III) before going on to a discussion around the importance of selecting the appropriate aspect when using modals to express needs, permission, and refusals. Remember the importance of aspect and knowing how to navigate your pairs as we are working through this Russian IIIs.
Tonight for homework you should practice with our new skills by completing exercises for practice. Russian II have exercise 7.1. Go through and apply your case declensions. Do not do any Genitive Plurals - this will be our focus when we return from Spring Break. Russian III should complete exercises 9.7 and 9.8 to play with aspect and modals requiring aspect.
If you have any missing work or low scoring work, be sure to see me this week to complete those assignments or reassessments. You can also see me this week with rubles or Falcon Feathers to raise your score.

Today in class we focused on how pronouns and question words (who/what) change to represent the various cases in Russian. Remember that words will change in order to show their full function in the sentence. I think that chanting the case forms is a great way to memorize them (and to sound like you're possessed in Russian). Complete exercise 2.16 as a way to practice with this work. What pronoun do we need? What case do we need? Use your chart to make the appropriate changes.
Additionally, remember that this is the last week of the grading period. The final two assignments for this quarter are our viewing guide on Office Romance and our floor plan projects. Everything should be turned in ASAP so that it can be recorded for you.
As always, please get in contact with me if you need anything!

Homework for B-Day Classes - 5 November
I'm back everyone! Yay! Vacation was exactly what I needed to recharge going into Quarter 2. Here are your reminders about what to do moving into our class on Wednesday. First, remember to encourage people you know to vote! Democracy only works when we all participate. Other than that we have the following -
AP Seminar
Tonight you have an additional article which will give you another approach to the idea of protest; perhaps a different one than we've considered so far. Read and annotate the article "Why Violence Works" which is linked from the Unit Plan as well as here. As you read, consider the claims, evidences, and arguments presented. You might also want to consider its credibility. From here, consider how this article contributes to the larger conversation we're having around protest.
After this, take a look through your stimulus pack. You might want to start to consider the documents because you'll end up starting your QUEST by using one of these documents as an anchor. What issue is presented? What problem? Question?
Advanced Russian
Today in class we didn't get as far as I wanted, so there's a bit of a modification to the planned homework. Tonight you should all focus on finishing your abstract for your research paper. Hopefully you divided the parts of the abstract out and then have begun to write. Remember to have full ownership of your language as you write. When it is ready to be reviewed by me, let me know. I'll be checking them on Friday if you don't tell me to before that.
From here, look at your exercises for review of the concepts today. For Russian II, you'll want to take a look at Exercise 5.7. Look at the clues in the sentence and think about if it's a situation that needs perfective or imperfective as well as the tense. You might also want to take a look at the types of verbal action as you look at this.
For Russian III, you've got Exercise 8.7. This will have you consider prepositions related to time expressions. You should use your notes that you took today as well as your textbook to help you work through this information.
Russian I
Today in class we had a bit of a struggle related to behavior. We can consider this class the warning for everyone. If we continue to have problems then I will be to solve them, and you may not like my solution. Further, remember what I said in regards to studying and preparing. You need to be working regularly on this class in order to improve. If you're not, then there's a problem and it needs to be fixed. If you don't know how to study, then seek out assistance. It's important to make everything start to click now before things get out of your control.
For tonight, I want you to focus on Exercise 1.5 and 1.4. You should be actively using your vocabulary list and your notes in order to do this work. You may not be able to fill in all of the blanks, but I expect a good effort. I think that 1.5 is the more important of the two and the one that you should be able to complete the most of.

Homework for B Day - 30 October
AP Seminar
Great work today with your presentations everyone. I was really pleased by what I saw and by the work that you all put together. Be sure that you take some time to reflect on your performance (I'll have a proper reflection form for you later) as well as take some time to think about your future TMPOD work. For tonight, we have a few things to read and annotate to lead into Thursday. First, we have our article which was given out in class as well as the video available here. Be sure to view these through the lens of protest, which will help to set a purpose for your annotations.
After this, or before, be sure that you complete your question organizer around protest. You should complete five of the eight lenses. You'll have a chance to speak together and collaborate around your questions next class.

Today we took time to review the concept of the abstract for a research paper and the specific components that are needed for it. Be sure that you are spending time to work tonight so that you can collaborate a bit next class in order to complete the work. It's due on Monday, via Google Drive and it'll be a shared group score.
Further, please take a look at Exercise 5.2 (Russian II) and consider the aspect of the verbs in the text. Russian III students should look at the reading assignments at the beginning of Chapter Eight to see how the new pronouns are used in context.
On Thursday you'll be reading and working with a short story before you do some work to create a skit in Russian to practice your speaking and performance skills.
Russian I
Today we took our quiz on the first part of Chapter One. If you were absent, then you'll have to see me next week to make up the quiz. From there, we worked on knowing our verb conjugation patterns. Please see the slides on Google Classroom if you missed class since everything is there.
For tonight you should do a few things to review and practice what we did today in class. First, review pages 47 and 48 in your textbook for a review of how to conjugate the two types of verbs - first and second conjugation. Then, look at exercise FOUR on page FIFTY ONE. Look at the question, and present a positive or negative answer based on what you would like. Skip number 9 and 11 since we haven't yet looked at reflexive verb conjugations yet.
Also, if today's quiz was difficult for you, continue to study and review, remember that you'll get the chance to do a reassessment.

Homework for B-Day Classes: 22 October 2018
AP Seminar
This week we will be moving toward our TMPOD, so all work outside of class should be devoted toward that goal. Hopefully by this point your group knows your question or problem and the answer or solution that you are trying to sell. Now it's time to sell it.
Be sure that you are relating back to the research that you have already done. As I said today in class, many of you have looked at what's been done already - perhaps the best way to move forward is to discuss that as you begin to propose your own idea.
Next class and Friday we'll be working on these through class. Be sure that you've shared your Annotated Bibliography and highlighted where your teammates should focus on Wednesday and Friday. Also remember that you have all of your Oral Defense questions - it would be a good idea to begin to prepare those now.
Presentations will be done and scored on Tuesday. Then, Tuesday afternoon, I'll submit your final grades for this process. Remember that the TMPOD is the other half of the grade with the AB.
Advanced Russian
Today's class was a good one, though some of you should invest in more sleep or more coffee (or both) before coming to class. We are now working on a split unit - Russian II is focused on Unit 5 and Russian III is focused on Unit 8. Be aware of this as we move on.
Tonight, Russian II's are focused on showing they know the difference between perfective and imperfective aspect. Write about your day in English - use about 10 sentences. Then, go through and identify the verbs. Would the verb be done in perfective or imperfective if translating to Russian? Why? Consider the discussion today and the notes we took.
Russian III students are focused on learning declensions for new vocabulary. Your exercises are 8.6 and 8.19. Be sure to fill in the blank, check for agreement, and to translate what you have.
As well, you should all be developing your team outline - IN ENGLISH. We'll hopefully have some time devoted to this later in the week.
Russian I
Today in class we went full force into Unit 1 by learning the different words to talk about ownership. There are two ways that we can do this in Russian that you know right now. One is through the preposition У and the other is by using a possessive pronoun. Remember that the possessive pronoun agrees with the item owned, and not the owner.
Use the slides in Google Classroom if your notes are lacking. Remember that you also have all week to resubmit your alphabet examination if you need to. Tonight, there are a few things for you to do. First, keep studying your vocabulary words for Unit 1 in advance of our spelling quiz next week. Second, complete the exercises on page 56 - number 11 and 12. Read the sentence and fill in the blank using the words that we have learned today.

Homework for A Day Students - Long Weekend - 26 October
It's the end of the first quarter! Way to go everyone!
Russian I
If you would like to reassess on your vocabulary section for your quiz, come and see me tomorrow to do that. You could also throw some rubles on it if you have any left. Over the weekend you should spend your time studying and clarifying the different types of pronouns (subject/possessive) and how they are used.
Also, please spend time studying your vocabulary. You should, at a minimum, be spending approximately thirty minutes per day on vocabulary studying.
Advanced Russian
III - Over the weekend continue to do your preliminary research as well as building your outline collaboratively in Google Classroom. This weekend you should be focused on refining the question that you are asking and start to find information related to these questions. Remember that the information you find must be in Russian. I am here to help you make sense of it.
This weekend you should also focus on studying your ordinal numbers (1-10 are strange, they're pretty regular after 11). Review the spelling and formation of these as well as when they are used.
II - One of the only ways to learn aspect is to do aspect, so that's why you have your project. For this weekend you should select which types of verbal action you'll be using, which verbs you'll be using, and make your sentences in English. I'll be able to look at this and give you feedback on how to proceed.
English IV
Make sure that you have gone through your folder and organized your notes around The Canterbury Tales. Start studying now to prepare for your unit exam.

Homework for A Day Students - 24 October 2017
Russian I
Tonight you should spend time reviewing the information in your textbooks on pages 38 and 39 about subject pronouns. How are subject pronouns different from possessive pronouns? How are they used in sentences?
Also, please find the list of people you would meet in Russia. We'll be doing an activity next class around these people and how to talk about them. Make sure you list at least ten people and identify if you would speak with them formally or informally.
Advanced Russian
II - At the end of the chapter find exercise number three. This is in two parts - A and Б. Look over the sentences and select five from group A and five from group Б. As you look at the sentences, identify the verbs and aspect used in each sentence. Then, write your answers to the questions. Be sure to consider the aspect of the verb in your answer - will it be the same or different? Why?
III - You must complete your research topic so that we can review it on Friday. Additionally, look over the rest of Chapter Eight, especially related to time expressions, and find places where ordinal numbers are used. Think of other areas of language where we would use an ordinal number instead of a plain or cardinal number.
English IV
If you have any missing work that work will be converted into a zero. Be sure that everything is completed. If you have questions, you can ask me or Mr. Bernhard for assistance.
