Homework for 6 and 9 March

Your homework tonight asks that you continue to work on your definition essays. For this assignment, you should use the outline format that I provided for you in class today to outline your essay. Use your prewriting assignment to help you get started. Please bring your outline with you to class on Tuesday/Wednesday as I will use this time to check over your outlines and give guidance about how to move forward with your drafts.

Unfortunately, I cannot post the proper format here on the blog because it messes up the spacing. Come see me for the format if you need help.

Mr. Miller, I went home early on Thurday due to being sick. What do I need to make up as far as homework, classwork, and notes??

mr miller,

when writing of definitions essays, are we allowed to use like "I" and "my opinion" stuff? I was just wondering because I was having trouble writing a good hook and introduction.

mr miller,

also I was wondering if the examples in the essay all had to be from Romeo and Juliet, or for at least the introduction, we could use other examples from other places.

Hannah - I would prefer that you leave out the personal pronouns and things like "my opinion" - try to just make the statements. Also, your examples need to mostly be from Romeo and Juliet. You may use personal experience for one example.

hey okay so for the outline thing are we handing this in and your grading it or are we keeping it for ourselves?

Bring it to class with you. I'll check it then!

Mr. Miller,
I am working on the outline right now, and I would like to do fate because I think it's interesting. I'm not sure if i should though, because I don't really believe in fate. Should I use that as what i think of the definition, and have my essay about that? Or, should I choose a different word?

The essay will probably be hard to finish if you don't really believe in the concept. Try to do the outline and see how you feel about the topic. You can always switch later.

Your thesis will be your definition of the term. If you don't think that fate exists, it may be hard to define that. I'd suggest you choose something else.

Hey Mr. Miller
I'm not having trouble writing my essay. Its more of having trouble stopping. While doing my outline i decided to start my first paragraph and i ended up with a 300 to 350 letter one. I like it but I would like to talk to you about some ways to cut back, or maybe extend it :) but i doubt you really want to read to much
