Poetry Forms and Structures

If you're not sure how to write a particular form of poetry check out this website:

http://www.types-of-poetry.org.uk

It's a pretty cool tool to use and it gives examples of the different types. It may also be useful for those of you that want to experiment with a different form of poetry.

Benny - What's your e-mail address? I'll send you another copy of the sheet.

You've got to be more organized. If I didn't have my work computer at home with me you would be in a big mess.

Hi Mr. Miller it's Rachel.

I was thinking about what poems to use for the found poem for the project, and i was wondering do song lyrics count? I remember you saying rap is poetry but are songs too? and Im not sure if you want us using lyrics from raps or songs soo should i just use poems from books and stuff?

Well I've been working on some poems over the break (obviously b/c its due when we get back) but I wanted to get some feedback on them should I email them to you or just write them on here? If by email what is your email again?

Also...I am having difficulties with the catalogue poem I don't quite understand how or what to do with that poem...and its not on that website you gave us.

Anita - Look through the other posting and I think you'll be able to find your answer for what a catalogue poem is.

Also - I'd rather not look at any drafts of your poems. This is one of the assignments where I want you as a writer to look at your work and critique it before it comes in to me. Just make sure that you're doing everything that the form should do and that you have used figurative lanaguage and imagery among other literary devices.

"As for the catalogue poem, you are giving information about all of the parts of a bigger idea or concept."

For example things such as; "Evolution" or like "Utopia" ??

Are those the type of examples of a bigger idea or concept?

hey mr.miller just to clarify does the reflection need to be in 5 paragraph format or can it just be like a diary entry reflection

Daniel Miller said...

Anita - You've got the right idea. Just make sure that you're using your poem to look at all of the pieces of that bigger concept.

Kodjo - Single space the poems and double space the reflection. Just make sure that the reflection is doing everything that it needs to do. It doesn't need to be in five paragraph format.
