Homework/Reminders

First, the reminders. You have a quiz on Acts II and III on Tuesday the 3rd for A day and Wednesday the 4th for B day. You should be sure that you study this weekend for this quiz. Use your notes to review. Also, your projects are due on Thursday (A) and Friday (B). You should plan on spending time this weekend working on this project that you have had for a little more than a month. If you have questions about your projects this weekend, please leave a comment.

Finally, your homework:

Standard: Act III, Scene 5 shows the first real encounter between just Juliet and her parents – Does this remind you of a realistic interaction between a teenage girl and her parents? Why or why not? Perhaps you want to draw on personal experience or an example from TV or film to clarify your statement.

Honors: Answer the following question using evidence from what we’ve studied so far in Romeo and Juliet – you should be sure you have a clear thesis statement and clear examples from the text that clarify your thesis. Explain how the depiction of childhood or adolescence in Romeo and Juliet contributes to the meaning of the whole play. In order to clearly answer this question you need to tell me what the meaning of the play is.

Study for your quiz.

If you have questions about your homework, please leave a comment. This homework is due to the box on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Benny - I don't quite understand you but it sounds like you're doing too much work. Come see me with what you have on Monday. Go ahead and do the songs for these five scenes you've already done.

I'm trying to work on the part of our Shakespeare projects where we translate a whole scene of our play. It says it has to be a whole scene that is at least 100 lines long. In Othello, there are some really short scenes and the others are VERY long. It says to translate a whole scene, but that would mean like 700 lines or something. But the other choices are only about 50 lines. Could I translate part of a scene up to the one hundreth line or a good stopping point?
Thanks! (:

Emily - I think that I.2 of Othello meets the requirements without being too much.

I don't want you translating multiple small scenes because I want you to play with keeping the meaning of the scene intact throughout the whole piece.

Also look at the following scenes: IV.3 and V.1.

Hope that this helps.

hey mr miller so i am just wondering if it ok that i write about the end of R and J and like talk about how hatred can lead to kindness becuase at the end of the play we all know that the families kinda stop their disagreement so i am wondering if its ok if i can talk about that?

never mind :] i have a better idea for the meaning of the play

Mr. Miller, for the project, when you say translate the scene, you mean make it like modern day like instead of of the king and queen setting for the play?

Daniel Miller said...

Donovan - Exactly right. Be sure that you're using a lot of slang as you translate your speech.

Hi Mr. Miller

I have a question about the translation: For A Midsummer Nights Dream the Acts are like Act 1. Scene 1 and 2 and the scenes are soo long. I dont know which scene I should do because they are soo long. There is one scene with all the play people but Im not sure if its long enough?
thank you let me know

Sadie - There are a few scenes that are within the 100-140 line range. Look at the line numbers along the side of the page. Act I, Scene 2 would work well for this project.

Hey, okay so for the project like the part 3, how long does the part that is- define tragedy and comedy and tell which oen your play is. Cause i wrote a paragraph.. and does it ahve to be on a seperate sheet of paper as the 3 paragraph why we think it is one?

Mel - For the last part of the project I am looking for two mini-essays. One on each topic. Look at the other post and read what I wrote to Ivan. I think that will clear up some of your questions. You may do the mini-essays on the same sheet of paper but you should make sure to separate the two of them and double-space them.
