Exams - Nearly Complete!

We're all set, y'all. Thanks for a pretty solid year. If you have any questions about your standing at the end of the year, feel free to drop by and visit. SIS is locked for the final grade reporting, but I'm happy to let you know where you fall. Visit in the fall, I should be in the same classroom!

31 May - End of the Month / Bye Seniors!

AP Language

Today was our day to complete our final in-class writing assignment. In this assignment you have a prompt, because you always have a prompt - there's always exigence, but you're encouraged to answer the prompt in a more creative and risky way. It's our hope that part of this assignment finds its way to your future personal writing tasks. Note that you now have two tasks due, the writing and the reading.

Quarter 4 officially closes on Friday (Monday for Grey Day). If you have any final choice board items to review or anything else to submit, it needs to be in and done. After this week our work will focus only on the final final exam task, the story telling assignment. This has been posted for your review. You're only getting an oral communication grade for this assignment. 

If you have any questions about closing out the year, please be in touch. Remember that I start reading for College Board on June 1, so I will be less available than I have been.

AP Research

We're all set! Final exams are done and grades are in. Fun times to end the year and lots of lovely energy. I'm sad I won't be at graduation next week, but I'm happy we had our time to say good bye today. If you find yourself on campus, come and say hello. Drop me a line from time to time and let me know how your life is going. Wishing you nothing but the best to take you forward.

24 May - AP Final Examination Tasks

AP Language

Another wonderful day working on our ART (Active Reading Task). We started our class by defining our needs, and then we moved forward to meet those needs. We collaborated with peers to discuss texts and uncover more meaning. I liked that I saw a lot of active engagement and collaboration. This is the key to being successful in these tasks. 

By this point, you should have most of your two texts read/processed. Please use your work from your group discussions to help you do this. Next class we'll be focused on personal writing and personal brainstorming - thus the right side of the document. It's due at the end of next class.

If you need anything else at this time, please make an appointment at Lion Time or After School. The door is closing on the AP Language skills part of the gradebook as we are now working on our final examination tasks.

AP Research

Remember to submit your Final Examination artifacts as well as any last items from Quarter 4 by Friday. I will be finalizing Q4 grades on Friday at the end of the day. Next week I'll see you on the 31st for your Final Exam day. Bring snacks! Each of you will have about five minutes to present your item. Do your presentation as a pitch. Pitch your item for me to use next year. 

Please submit all items on Schoology. I need to be sure to have a record of all final examination artifacts.

Final Class (Kinda) Complete

It's the last meeting of our classes this week. As a reminder, all work for this quarter is due on June 3 at midnight. Your access to Schoology will close on Saturday morning. Once we begin exams the only thing that I will accept to score is the final exam. Use these final days to submit what you can and raise your quarter grade as high as you can.

Tomorrow AP Language will have a bonus class for first and fifth period. I'll be on campus, but will be in training for AP Exam scoring. I'll check in as I can. English 10 will have their examination for seventh period. Remember to review your grammar notes and literary terms. A read through your journals and notebooks is a great way to study and review.

If you have assignments to submit, now is the time.

Exams Begin Tomorrow

Good evening all! A reminder that exams begin tomorrow with second period. The exam can only help and not harm your grade. If you choose not to take it, then your grade will be calculated based on your quarter average. If you have submitted late work or asked about cashing in rubles for the end of the year - I will be grading and updating SIS in the morning. Please continue to submit work if you can/would like/need.

Your final projects for quarter four are due on Monday. I'll be available on BBCU most of the day on Monday and some of the day tomorrow for conferencing and assistance. You can also feel free to reach out via email or private comment.

Keep in mind that we'll also begin our half-day schedule tomorrow for exams.

Final Grades Update

I have final grades calculated for all students who have taken their final examination. You can check in with me during lunch or before/after school about your final grade. I will post them to PowerSchool when I can.

Final Reminders - Closing out 2018-2019

Good Afternoon and Happy Last Day of Class! (LDOC) 

Here are a few reminders for you as we get ready for finals.

1. The only thing that will be accepted is final changes to grades with rubles and Falcon Feathers. You have until Friday. Please see me in the morning or during the period between exams. I have had to leave early today, so I'll keep accepting extra credit this week.

2. There is an examination ready for every student. Do not miss your exam. Do not think that you are exempt from your exam when you are not. If I have not specifically told you that you are exempt then you should not assume that you are. Remember that no student can be exempt from a NCFE or EOC exam.

3. If you have any books that have been loaned to you, be sure that they are returned or replaced if they have been lost. You will not receive a diploma if you have fines or books remaining checked out to you.

4. I've posted my exam schedule below. Know where and when you need to be. If you have questions, be sure to ask!

Finishing Strong - B Day Edition

And now it's time for the last post for B-Day Students. Congratulations on making it to the end of the road! Remember to finish strong and be prepared for what there is still to come!

AP Seminar

Over the weekend you should all prepare for your final symposium for AP Seminar. This symposium will begin our bridging to AP Research. For the symposium you will answer ONE of the six questions that you have been given. You may have a slide or notecard to help you with your answer to the question. Our examination for AP Seminar will be a teacher-made exam and it will be in my classroom. The exam will be held on the morning of the 30th of May.

Advanced Russian

The main task for the weekend is to complete and submit your slide shows for the final project. The space is available for you on Google Classroom. Remember that on Tuesday you will present your cultural information, three of your interesting uses of Russian, and your memorization (to me if you so choose). Tuesday is the final day for grades and such, so make sure that you are leaving class with your work where it should be.

Furthermore, your examination will be on May 30 in the afternoon session. If you are not sure of your exemption status, be sure to ask and check on this. Don't assume anything as it relates to exam exemptions. You have your final exam study guide, so prepare!

Russian I

On Tuesday we will have our last class of the year which will be focused on culture. We will have our holiday presentations next class and finish any of our review activities that we still need to do. Your final examination will be on June 3 in the morning. The exam will focus on grammar, vocabulary, and cultural skills learned in this course. You should prepare using your study guides, textbooks, and all of the work that has been returned to you.

Additionally, there are many helpful resources online that you can find an access. Do some searching on YouTube - I think those are the most helpful.

Remember that the final day for any graded work for B-Day students is Tuesday. I will also accept rubles and Falcon Feathers

Russian and AP Students -

Students who are NOT exempt have been verified and those names are posted outside of my classroom. Please check in if you are unsure of your status. If you believe that I have made an error please stay with me to check your absences and grades and confirm your status related to the examination.

Let's Be Ready for Exams

Congratulations everyone! We've made it to the end. Since I will not be here tomorrow for the B-Day Classes I wanted to make sure that this was posted to go over exams for all of the classes.

Be sure that you are where you need to be for your final examination. Remember not to assume that you are exempt from a teacher made exam unless you hear that confirmation from me!

2A - English IV NCFE (No Exemptions)
Students will test on Friday the 25th at 12:00 PM. You will test in our classroom. Be sure that you are on time so that you have time to complete your entire test. Exams will be scored once I receive score reports from the State.

3A - Advanced Russian
Students will test on Wednesday the 30th at 9:00 AM. You will test Room 309 with me.

4A - Russian I
Students will test on Wednesday the 30th at 1:00 PM. You will test in our classroom. Be sure that you have reviewed all of the study materials that you have been given in order to complete this examination.

2B - English IV NCFE (No Exemptions)
Students will test on Tuesday the 29th at 12:00 PM. You will test in our classroom. Be sure that you are on time so that we can complete the examination in the required timeframe. Again, I will receive your scores from the State and input your scores once I receive them.

3B - AP English III
Students will test with me in our classroom on the 31st at 9:00 AM. Be on time. You will have identifications and two essays for this exam. Be sure that you have reviewed all of your notes and texts from the year so that you are prepared.

4B - AP English III
Students will test with me in our classroom on the 31st at 12:00 PM. Be on time. You will have identifications and two essays for this exam. Be sure that you have reviewed all of your notes and texts from the year so that you are prepared.

Exemptions for the AP English III students will be ready on Tuesday after I have graded your short story tests. It is your responsibility to check the class website or to see me for your exemption information. After I return on Tuesday from Boston I will begin to grade your examinations and have your scores finalized as soon as I can.

Today was the last day of First Period (A or B Day), so I'm done with planning and preparation. Here is the schedule about where and when to be for your exam.

A final note pertaining to exemptions - If you are exempt from the exam it can only help and not harm you. If you have any questions related to exam exemption, you should contact me directly. No student may be exempt from the English II EOC - it is a state test. Russian and AP English III exams are teacher made, so you can be exempt from those.

Homework for the Weekend - 19 May 2017 - A Day

Advanced Russian

Over the weekend you should all be preparing for our final speaking assignment - our talk show called 20 Years Later. There are specific tasks based on your role in the show.

• Host - You need to write a brief introduction to the show (introduce the topic, situation, guests). You will also need to write questions for each person during the individual interviews and a few questions for the group discussion.
• Psychologist - You will need to write questions for each person during the individual interviews and a few questions for the group discussion.
• Characters - You will want a brief introduction about yourself. You will also want to consider possible questions and how you will answer these - coming up with sentence starters in Russian would be helpful for this.
• Viewers - Will you be asking questions or giving insights? If so, generate and write those. Will you be trying to create drama? How? Write what you will say to begin the conversations and anticipate possible responses.

On Tuesday we'll work together to prepare for Thursday's final speaking assignment. We'll be writing cue cards - it's important that everyone have work to be checked and developed on Tuesday.

Russian I

Over the weekend you should continue to study and review for your final examination in Russian I. You've been given the study guide which outlines the topics you will be asked to cover. Additionally, you may want to look over your grades on PowerSchool to consider any places you want to reassess or put rubles for extra credit. On Tuesday we will continue speaking and answering questions (which we started today) as well as continue our film.

English II

You should all be working on your essay assignment on Google Classroom over the weekend. You can also work on it on paper at home and type your work when we return. This essay is your final major grade of the year. You also have your study guide for the EOC - focus on learning terms and being able to recognize them so that if you see them on the exam then you are prepared!

English II Final Grades

I have uploaded all of the final grades for English II with three exceptions - you three still have an INC (incomplete) because I'm waiting on the state to finish your exam grading.  I'm very sorry about this.  You may receive a report card which says INC for your grade, in that case you should refer to PowerSchool for the update or contact the school for the updated grade.

This is likely going to be my final post for the year - it's been a good one.  I'm looking forward to the summer and to next year.  Enjoy the summer, read a lot!

Final Grades

I have final grades calculated for Russian 2/3. I won't be able to enter them until the 8th of June in PowerSchool, but if you'd like you can see me before or after school.
