Final Assignments are Posted!

All classes will be asynchronous on Tuesday because of graduation at Fairfax High School. All final assignments, instructions, and videos to review have been posted.

AP Language

That's it! You did the thing, we talked about the thing, and now we wait for scores. I'm glad to see that so many of you felt prepared and ready for what you did. Nothing is perfect, especially this year, but I'm very proud of the work that you've all done. Now we just put the cherry on top.

Be sure to complete your planning document before moving into the main steps of the project. Submit the document to get feedback as quickly as you can. Remember that you'll submit three items for the final project - your motif chart, illustration, and written analysis. Everything is due by June 3rd. Finals begin on June 4th.

English 10

We have just a few workdays left for our final portfolios. Thank you to everyone who is consistently working and ticking off their tasks. Remember that if you finish your portfolio early, that you should review and complete any other missing work for Quarter 4. If you're done, then you're done!

If we didn't have the chance to complete our conference today, then I invite you to come and meet on Monday during office hours. Please sign up for slot or email me to reserve a time to meet. Keep in mind that we are moving to the end of the writing process with our research papers. Convert the outline into a draft, and then begin the process of editing and clarifying. Watch out for large paragraphs and look for places to break up the conversation.

Next week we'll begin our reading of Invisible Man. I'm so excited to hear your thoughts and impressions.

English 10

Remember that next week we'll start to finish our unit with our final task - the interpretation. Be sure that your preliminary steps are complete so that you have all that you need to finish this task. 

AP Research

Great work today everyone as we discussed the main methods of organization for qualitative data. Keep in mind that many of you are working with both qualitative and quantitative data in your projects, so it's important to have a clear method and reason for organizing the way that you have. We also took our first foray into analysis as we discussed various methods of statistical analysis. 

You should, hopefully, by the end of this week have enough data collected to begin the process of analysis. Organize your data, use your charts and tables, consider your question and what you are trying to show. Remember to use your Body of Knowledge to justify your choices.

I've uploaded your newest reflection question - POD 1.3 in the Classwork Tab. Next week will mostly be a working week on your own to begin the process of data analysis. Remember that you should have a working draft of your Introduction/Literature Review and Method by the end of this unit for peer review and conferencing.

Remember that Thursday and Friday will be asynchronous for all classes. Your assignments have already been posted, and I also uploaded recordings (as needed) to assist you in completing that work. I will not be available on Thursday, but I may be free to meet on Friday. If you need me, please reach out, and I will do what I can to assist. Week 3 Begins - Tuesday 22 September - Blue Day

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Today was a mostly asynchronous day for us in English as we were reading, thinking, and developing some connections to some major unit ideas. All of the materials from today are located on Google Classroom under Day 5. Below, I'll review the main takeaways for today.

English 10

We have three things to do today in class in order to complete everything. Complete the Book Form. Go to the Online Textbook and do the assignment called "Diane Sawyer Interviews Malala Yousafzai". Complete the Discussion Question.

If you have time, there's an additional assignment, but you don't need to get started on that now. It would be better to go back and make sure that missing work from Week 1 and 2 is turned in, especially the Writing Diagnostic.

Our next step will be doing our planning for the essay through a graphic organizer. Having HW2 done will make that a lot easier for you!

AP Language

Remember that there are three to-dos for today. Join AP Classroom. Complete the Book Form. Submit your discussion question on Anzaldua/Sedaris.

It's also a good day to check in on any previous assignments to make sure that work from Weeks 1 and 2 is submitted to be scored. I'm making my way through your outlines and hope to have them finished by the end of the week. As I said in class, we'll begin our Writing Bootcamp next week to focus on argumentative writing elements and organization to improve these pieces of writing. If you'd like to discuss your work in advance or in detail - Office Hours on Monday are a great time for that.
